History: The Caravan Park was a development of the then Chamber of Commerce (now KDPA). Following the decision of the old Kaniva Shire Council to provide a caravan park with 12 powered sites on 17th July 1962, work was carried out to the cost of $2,585 with a government grant of $2,068 towards the work. It was opened in April 1964. It drew some criticism in the 1970s and a program of alterations and renovations were completed in Jan 1980, financed by a municipal loan of $20,000. Kaniva Tourism and KDPA continued to support the park advocating for further improvements. Additional showers, camp kitchen, lighting, BBQ seating and minor upgrades took place in 2002 thanks to the Council and grant funding totalling $20,000, with Kaniva Apex Club installing the fence and the Garden Club planting trees and plants. In 2019 funding became available for upgrades to council run caravan parks and KDPA and the caretakers advocated to WWSC due to major cracking in the facilities. Funding was granted in 2021 by RDV for $574K with a council contribution of $19K. This enabled the old amenities block to be demolished and rebuilt. The new amenities were completed in June 2023.WSDA received $3 million from the State Government’s Regional Tourism Investment Fund for its cabins project, which involved the construction of 30 cabin accommodation units across 15 Wimmera caravan parks, including the two at Kaniva opened in July 2024.
