1. Kaniva Silo Art
Take a look at the GrainCorp Silo Art near the Band Park on Progress St and snap a selfie. The best time to capture this masterpiece is before 11 am or after late afternoon. Enter via the gate next to the toilets, picnic area and playground. Standing nearly 30 metres high, the mural is hard to miss and pays tribute to the Little Desert National Park
2. Sheep Art Trail
Meet Kaniva’s famous flock! Follow the 900-metre Sheep Art Trail through the town and discover more than 40 individually painted sheep along the way. Each has its own character and story, making this an easy and fun walk for visitors of all ages.
3. Kaniva Wetlands & Fauna Park
Take some time to explore the Kaniva Wetlands & Fauna Park. Wander the walking tracks and boardwalks, discover local wildlife and visit the aviary. There’s also a nature play area, flying fox, exercise equipment, picnic and BBQ facilities, plus a dog park. It’s a lovely spot to slow down, stretch your legs and enjoy the outdoors.
4. Wiregrass Heritage Trail
Explore the mythical town of Wiregrass, where Percy Leason's celebrated cartoons come to life through a permanent exhibition, striking murals and interactive displays. Discover the people, places and stories that inspired one of Australia's most famous cartoon series, all within a leisurely 450-metre walk through Kaniva's main street. Walking tours available.
5. The Big Windmill
The Big Windmill is one of Kaniva’s best-known landmarks and has become a much-loved meeting point and welcome to town to find out what's on. Relax in the Windmill Garden or if you're staying late, capture our colour changing windmill on night mode!
6. Kaniva Puppet Shop
Part shop, part museum and full of surprises, the Kaniva Puppet Shop is a place to indulge in a little nostalgia and relive your childhood. Discover historic dolls and marionettes, browse Australia’s largest range of jigsaws and explore the magical Christmas Room and Polar Express display. Kids can enjoy the puppet theatre making this a great stop for visitors of all ages.
7. Billyho Bushwalk
Just 10 minutes south of Kaniva, Billyho Bushwalk is a favourite with locals and visitors, particularly in spring and autumn. The 2.6 km track meanders through Yellow Gums, twisted Brown Stringybarks, Banksias and heathlands, offering a taste of the Little Desert National Park. There’s a seating and campfire area too, making Billyho a lovely place to slow down and enjoy the bush without a 4WD.
8. Serviceton Station & Silo Art
Take a short drive west to Serviceton and discover two fascinating pieces of local history and art. Explore the historic Serviceton Station, once an important stop on the Melbourne–Adelaide railway line, and discover the historic border dispute on the Serviceton GrainCorp Silo Art.
9. Lake Charlegrark
Just 30 minutes south of Kaniva, Lake Charlegrark is a natural haven surrounded by red gums and rolling farmland. The 40-hectare lake is a popular spot for fishing, water skiing, boating, kayaking and swimming, while the shaded foreshore, BBQs and wide-open spaces make it a great place for a picnic and a relaxing day out.
