Kaniva has become increasingly popular as a tree change destination for people seeking to escape the rat race, pollution, traffic and stresses of city life.

Kaniva offers a unique lifestyle that includes low-density housing, a range of local events, retail, sporting facilities, natural attractions and a community spirit with traditional rural values that make for a great country lifestyle.

House prices vary greatly from $100,000 to newly built houses roughly $500,000. Kaniva offers childcare, kinder & a P12 state school along with medical facilities & resident doctor. The population of the Kaniva & District at the time of the 2020 census was 891, an increase of 11% on the previous census.  The town services a further 319 people who live in the neighbouring 3420 and 3415 postcode areas of Lillimur, Miram, Telopea Downs and Serviceton. Most houses are a ten minute walk to the main street and Kaniva has one of the lowest crime rates in Victoria. 60% of people own their home outright and 40% of people volunteer for a community group

Kaniva is seeing renewed optimism and business confidence at present and properties are scarce.
